Head Coach Bobby Williams, Jr.
Director of Athletics Kiki Baker Barnes has announced that Bobby Williams, Jr., has rejoined Dillard University as head coach of the cross country and track and field programs.
He was previously hired just two weeks before Hurricane Katrina devastated the city and the DU campus, in 2005.
Williams, who earned his bachelor and master's degrees in education from the University of New Orleans, had been waiting for the programs to be re-established, which Dillard recently announced.
"I'm very excited to finally get a chance to finish what I started," said Williams. "We will use this season to build a strong foundation for the upcoming seasons and, at the same time, competitively run this year."
The Blue Devils kick off the 2009 cross country season on September 12, with the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational at Lafreniere Park, which is less than a month away.
"With the return of our programs, we knew we needed someone who was familiar and who could hit the ground running," said Barnes. "We are very happy that Coach Williams was available to return to Dillard."
While out of coaching, Williams was accepted to the Andersonville Theological Seminary, where he began working towards his doctoral degree in 2007. He founded the Anchored In Christ Worship Center the same year, in New Orleans East, where he serves as pastor. He also taught at Delgado Community College and, most recently, at the Einstein Charter School as a health and physical education instructor.
