(New Orleans)  Over 60 people including the Lady Bleu Devils basketball team went to the 9th Ward to help the Red Cross and the New Orleans Police Department pass out evacuation and fire safety plans in case of hurricanes or times of crisis.

"It was a humbling experience," said senior center Amber Tramel, who currently stands as Miss Dillard.  "While passing out materials we got to interact with the entire neighborhood and they were very receptive to what we were giving to them," said Tramel.

When asked how she benefited from the time spent in the less fortunate parts of New Orleans, Tramel firmly responded.

"Being a basketball player as well as Miss Dillard University gives me the perfect opportunity to engage with the neighborhood children.  They are so energetic and full of life.  I just love to help them grow and see them reach their dreams."
