Antonio Valiente scored 22 points in just under 19 minutes to lead his Tigers to a 59-49 victory over the Bleu Devils. Valiente also pulled down four rebounds and shot 4-of-7 from downtown. With the win, Edward Waters picked up its third victory in four games and Dillard lost its seventh conference game in eight tries.
Dillard (2-15 overall, 1-7 GCAC) was led by freshman Jarrain Jenkins who finished with 15 points, nine boards, three assists and two steals. The Bleu Devils had a poor first half, scoring only 17 points and giving up 30 to Edward Waters.
In the first half Dillard shot a dismal 22 percent, hitting 5-of-23 shots; however, they picked up the slack in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 32-29 by shooting 46 percent from the field in the latter half.
Dillard's Norvel Shelby chipped in with nine points, two assists and one rebound in 31 minutes of action, and post man Roland Szabo also contributed with nine points, three rebounds and one steal in 36 minutes.
On Monday, February 4, Dillard will play its final home game of the season against Talladega College. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. in the Battlefield. Terry Church and Kelth Cameron will be honored on senior night.
