On May 6, 2009, Athletic Director/Head Women's Basketball Coach, Kiki Baker Barnes announced the signing of All-State forward, Jazzmin Smith, of Lake Charles, LA.
Smith prepped at St. Louis Catholic High School, under Head Coach Tony Johnson. During her senior season, she led her team all the way to the 3A State Championship finals. Smith served as the the team captain and floor general by leading her team in points(16.2 per game) and rebounds (8.1 per game). Her standout performance helped her to earn 1st team All-District, 1st team All-Southwest Louisiana and 2nd team All-State. Smith was 1 of 20 players selected to play in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) All-Star game that was held at Louisiana College, in Pineville, LA on March 21, 2009.
Smith has had a stellar career for the Lady Saints. As a junior, she earned 2nd team All-District, 2nd team All-Southwest Louisiana and All-State Honorable Mention while averaging 14. 8 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game.
As a sophomore, she earned 2nd team All-District and 2nd team All-Southwest Louisiana while averaging 13. 3 points per game and 6 rebounds per game.
Smith spent her freshmean season at Barbe High School where whe recieved All-District Honorable Mention and averaged 14. 2 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game.
"Smith is a great addition to the program," said Barnes " she will add depth at the forward spot." Not only is Smith a great athlete, but she is a model student. Smith is a member of the National Honor Society.
