(New Orleans) The Dillard Bleu Devils gave the SUNO Knights all they could handle, but lost 73-63 on Tuesday night at the Castle on the campus of Southern University at New Orleans.

The Bleu Devils (1-7, 1-17) were unfazed by the highly favored SUNO Knights (7-2, 11-9). Trailing 19-8 early in the game, the Bleu Devils went on a 13-2 run to tie the game at 21-21 with less than six minutes left in the first half. The Bleu Devils were not satisfied with tying the game up, grabbing a two-point lead on a jumper by Myron McGowan with five minutes left before halftime. Both teams went up and down the floor at a frantic pace. A three-pointer by Terry Church and layup by Myron McGowan propelled the Bleu Devils to a 36-33 lead at halftime. 

Terry Church led the Bleu Devils with 15 points at the half on 7-for-10 shooting, including a three-pointer. As a team, the Bleu Devils shot an impressive 48% from the field in the first half.

SUNO came out in the second half and quickly scored two straight baskets to grab the lead at 37-36. The Bleu Devils attempted to recover, but easy transition baskets by the Knights gave them a seven point lead and that was enough they needed to hang on for the victory. The Knights' led 62-51 with 6:28 remaining and were able to maintain that lead until the final buzzer.

Terry Church led the Bleu Devils with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Lance Theard came off the bench and chipped in with 18 points, including 2-for-4 from three-point range. 

The Bleu Devils will battle the Tougaloo Bulldogs on Saturday, February 4th at the Dawg Pound on the campus of Tougaloo University in Jackson, MS. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00p.m.
