(New Orleans) The Dillard Lady Bleu Devils gave a strong effort, but lost to the Loyola Lady Wolfpack 75-49 on Friday night at the Den on the campus of Loyola University.

The Lady Bleu Devils (2-5) were unable to overcome a turnover prone first half in the lost to the Lady Wolfpack (9-1, 3-1). 

The Lady Wolfpack used a combination of a stifling defense and blistering hot shooting from the field to gain the upper-hand on the Lady Bleu Devils. Trailing 6-2 early, the Lady Bleu Devils were unable to get a handle on the ball, fueling the Lady Wolfpack to the early lead. Turnovers by Dillard helped Loyola increase their lead to 23-8, prompting the Lady Bleu Devils to call three early timeouts. Following the third timeout, Dillard found their rhythm, clamping down on defense and scoring in transition. A three-point play by the Lady Bleu Devils' Ariel Mitchell cut Loyola's lead to six with 4:45 remaining in the first half. The Lady Bleu Devils' continued to cut into the Lady Wolfpack's lead and a three-pointer by Dillard's Lauren Daniel capped a 12-0 run to cut Loyola's lead down to one at 30-29. Loyola responded with a 10-2 run to close the half and go into intermission up 40-31 on the Lady Bleu Devils. 

Lauren Daniel led the Lady Bleu Devils at the break with 12 points, including 2-for-2 from three-point range. The Lady Bleu Devils shot 54% from the field as a team in the first half.

In the second half, Loyola came out on fire, scoring the first three baskets of the half to take a fifteen point lead and never look back from that point to cruise to the victory. 

Lauren Daniel and Jazzmin Smith led the Lady Bleu Devils with 13 points apiece in the loss. 

The Lady Bleu Devils will now travel to Miami, Florida to battle the Johnson & Wales University on Monday, December 12th at 5:30p.m. The Lady Bleu Devils will have a day off before coming back on Wednesday, December 16th to take on Florida Memorial College in Miami, Florida. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00p.m.
