Dillard - Sat, Nov. 12, 2011

(Baton Rouge) The Dillard Lady Bleu Devils Basketball Team was unable to find their shot or any offensive rhythm and lost to the Southern University Lady Jaguars 66-47 on Friday night at the FG Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Lady Bleu Devils, with three new starters and five freshmen, were unable to get anything going on offense from the outset. Shooting on 16% from the field as a team in the first half, the Lady Bleu Devils were able to hang tough against the Lady Jaguars due to their defense, trailing 29-16 at the break. The Lady Bleu Devils held the Lady Jaguars to 41% shooting in the first half while forcing Southern into 13 turnovers.

In the second half, the Lady Bleu Devils continue to struggle with their shooting, fueling the Lady Jaguars transition offense, which help them extend their halftime lead. The Lady Bleu Devils shot 25% from the field in the second half, which was not enough to keep up with the Lady Jaguars.

Seniors Lauren Daniel and Ariel Mitchell each lead the Lady Bleu Devils with 11 points apiece. Freshman Keyantra Taylor finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds for the Lady Bleu Devils, but she was just 2-for-8 from the field. For the game, the Lady Bleu Devils shot 23% from the field, while committing 18 turnovers.

The Lady Bleu Devils will be back in action on Monday, November 14th on the Battlefield in Dent Hall in their season opener versus the Loyola University Lady Wolfpack at 5:00p.m.

It will be the First Annual Dillard Athletics Food Drive (Thanksgiving) on the Battlefield. All students who attend the game and bring two can goods/non-perishable items will receive a free authentic Dillard Athletic hand clapper.
