(Nashville, TN) The Dillard Lady Bleu Devils, after losing the first set to SUNO, regrouped and powered past the Lady Knights 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the GCAC Volleyball Conference Tournament on Thursday night.

The Lady Bleu Devils defeated the Lady Knights 17-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-19. With the victory, the Lady Bleu Devils moved to the semifinals of the conference tournament and set up a matchup versus cross-town rival Xavier University. This will be the third matchup this season between the two teams.

The SUNO Lady Knights came out against the Lady Bleu Devils in the first set on fire. The Lady Bleu Devils were unable to get anything going, struggling to get to their spots on the floor while fueling the Lady Knights with points off their unforced errors. SUNO took a 10-2 lead in the first set, prompting the Lady Bleu Devils to call timeout. Following the timeout, the Lady Bleu Devils remained stagnant on offense, allowing the Lady Knights lead to balloon to 19-6. Dillard scored three consecutive points, but it was too little too late and SUNO took the first set 25-17.

In the second set, both teams went toe-to-toe against each other, with SUNO leading early on 3-2. Kills by Lady Bleu Devils' Megan Laday and Krista Hall gave Dillard a 7-6 lead, their first of the set, forcing the Lady Knights to call timeout. From there, the Lady Bleu Devils began to start clicking on all cylinders. Dillard executed their offense to perfection and a stifling at the net defense to lead 17-10, taking total control of the set. SUNO called another timeout, but was unable to stop the Lady Bleu Devils momentum, and Dillard was victorious in the second set 25-15.

In the third set, the Lady Bleu Devils took advantage of the Lady Knights miscues early on to take a 5-1 lead. Unable to withstand the Lady Bleu Devils' powerful serves and kill shots, the Lady Knights called timeout trailing 14-6. Following the timeout, the Lady Knights scored four straight points, bringing the score to 14-10. Unfortunately, that was the closest the Lady Knights would get. The Bleu Devils remained strong on offense and defense, maintaining their lead and win the set 25-20.

SUNO came out in the fourth set leading the Lady Bleu Devils early on 9-6. The Lady Bleu Devils scored seven straight points on Samantha Salao serves to race in front 13-9 and the Lady Bleu Devils would not look back from that point. The Lady Knights came to within three points at 19-16, but the poised Lady Bleu Devils easily closed out the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.

Paula Ogbevoen and Megan Laday had 9 kills apiece for the Lady Bleu Devils. Laday also contributed 5 digs. Monica Barros De Alcantara had 3 Kills, 14 assists and 1 ace for the Lady Bleu Devils.

The Lady Bleu Devils semifinals matchup versus the Xavier Gold Nuggets will begin at 6:00p.m. The winner will move on to the GCAC Volleyball Conference Final on Saturday.
