New Orleans, LA - John Henry Smith, sports director at WVUE Fox 8, will be the guest emcee of Dillard University's annual athletic awards program honoring scholar-athletes of the 2009-2010 seasons at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 27 at Lawless Chapel on the school's campus.
Smith joined FOX 8 as sports director near the beginning of the Saints' Super Bowl season. Prior to arriving in New Orleans, he worked for five years as sports anchor/reporter for ABC affiliate WPLG in Miami, Florida. Besides co-hosting "Sports Sunday", Smith was the regular emcee for the Broward Housing Solutions organization fundraisers.
Among the awards to be presented are the Champions of Character Athlete of the Year, which goes to the scholar-athlete who most exemplified the five core values of the NAIA initiative during the school year; the Champions of Character Team of the Year, and the Bleu Devil Scholar-Athlete of the Year - which will be awarded to the scholar-athlete with the highest grade point average.
The event is free and open to all Bleu Devil fans, supporters and alumni.
