New Orleans, LA - The Dillard University women's basketball program has signed three high school seniors from San Antonio, Texas, head coach Kiki Baker Barnes announced today.   Ceara Booker and Brandie Hurd, both of Samuel Clemens High School, and Mo'Nique Waiters of East Central High School will join the Lady Bleu Devils in the fall of 2010.

"This group of girls is gonna be special," said Barnes.  "They have high basketball IQ's and each of them can make an immediate impact."

According to MaxPreps.com, out of 500 girls basketball scoring leaders in the state of Texas, Hurd ranked No. 128, averaging 16.1 points per game, and Booker was No. 192, with an average of 14.9.

Booker (5-8, F) was also the eighth ranked player to watch on TexasGirlsBasketball.com's 2010 preseason poll for Texas 4A Region 4.  She made Clemens' varsity squad as sophomore and for the past two years has been named to the 1st Team All-District 25-5A and All-San Antonio Independent School District Tournament teams, and was the tournament MVP this season. Additionally, she was selected to the All-Region and Academic All-District teams, while serving as captain for the Lady Buffaloes.  Booker plans to major in sociology.

Hurd (5-7, G), who ranked 23rd on the same poll and shared team captain duties with Booker, was a 1st Team All-District, Academic All-District and All-Tournament team selection, for the past two seasons.  In 2009, she was named most valuable player for the Lady Buffs and was the best defensive and offensive player.  She is undecided about her major.

East Central's Waiters (5-2) was the starting point guard for the Lady Hornets all four years and, during that time, was also named to the All-Academic Team.  She led District 27-5A in assists and was second in steals.  Waiters was selected to the All-Tournament Team, her senior year.  She will major in math.
