"I am so excited to receive this opportunity," said Martin. "I know this program will help strengthen my skills and move me one step closer to my goal of becoming a head coach."
The WBCA's So You Want To Be A Coach program is in its eighth year and the 2010 class is the largest ever, with 78 members. The program consists of a two-and-a-half day workshop, which will be held during the WBCA National Convention in San Antonio, Texas, April 2-4. The So You Want To Be A Coach program was designed to increase the amount of women in the coaching profession, with an emphasis on female minorities, by providing a workshop based on educational and professional principles.
To qualify for the program, potential candidates must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated in the past year. In addition, the candidate's head coach has to nominate them or be an active WBCA member. Each participant is selected based on their academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and a written recommendation from their head coach.
"It was a pleasure to recommend Loretta for this honor," said Dillard head women's basketball coach Kiki Baker Barnes. "She has the potential to be a head coach on any level. I know she will do well."
