Ray played one semester for Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, but prior to that, he was a second team junior college All-America at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Ray led the Bulldogs to their first Region 23 title and trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament since 1993. During the 2009 Region 23 Tournament, he scored 85 points in three games.
At TSU, Ray played in and started nine games during the 2009-2010 campaign, averaging 6.8 points. Ray shot 18-50 field goals, 11-36 from three-point range (.306), and netted nearly 74 percent of his free throws. He also added nine steals in as many games.
Coach Brown describes Ray in one word, "Amazing." He looks forward to him bringing a lot to the floor next season.
