New Orleans, LA - Today, Dillard University Women's Basketball kicked off its 2010-11 recruiting class with the signing of Mariah Demery, a 6-0 forward from Creekview High School in Carrollton, Texas.

Demery's honors include All-District, Co-Defensive Player of the Year and she is a four-year letterwinner.  She is known for her athleticism and defensive skills, as well as her ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor.  According to women's assistant coach Norbert Rome, "Mariah has a high basketball I.Q."

Known as much for her academic prowess as athletics, Demery chose Dillard over The United States Military Academy at West Point, the Ivy League's Cornell University, and others.  A member of the National Honor Society, she boasts a 4.10 G.P.A. and is also a member of the Creekview debate team.  Demery is a state qualifier in Speech and will participate in the upcoming Texas State Speech and Debate competition in El Paso, Texas, March 10-15.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mariah to Dillard and into our basketball family," said head coach Kiki Baker Barnes.  "She is passionate about the game and committed to excellence off the court."
