New Orleans, LA - It was Senior night at Dent Gym, but it was freshman Jazzmin Smith (13 points) and sophomore Ariel Mitchell (14 points) pacing the Lady Bleu Devils (11-16, 4-13) to a 53-50 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference win over Tougaloo College, Monday night at Dent Gym.

Sophomore Cheney Hill posted her best all-around performance of the season in Dillard's fourth GCAC win, with highs of nine points, nine rebounds (all defensive) six assists, and four steals in 31 minutes of play - the most time she's seen all year.

"I am proud that the girls played hard for 40 minutes," said head coach Kiki Baker Barnes.  "And Cheney Hill really had a breakout game for us tonight."

Dillard, celebrating Senior Night in honor of outgoing players Alrieon Bevins, Syrena Edwards and Guylene Nsiewe, was coming off a disappointing 65-49 loss to Xavier in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crosstown Classic.  Tonight, the women looked strong, controlling the game both offensively and defensively.  The Lady Bleu Devils never trailed, but allowed four ties down the stretch of the second half, before pulling ahead for good with 15.8 seconds remaining when Mitchell went to the line for three shots after being fouled beyond the arc.  She converted all three for the winning score.

In the first half action, the women started out slowly, taking nearly three minutes to score.  Nsiewe put the Lady Bleu Devils on the board first, shooting 1 of 2 free throws after a foul by Jerrica Williams.  Dillard went on a short 6-0 run before Kim Kern got Tougaloo going with a three-pointer at 12:41.

DU controlled the tempo and continued to build its lead in the first half, while the Lady Bulldogs never overcame a 10-point halftime deficit of 27-17.  Dillard held Tougaloo to just 24.3 percent shooting from the field to mark its best defensive effort against an opponent this season.

Tougaloo (13-14, 9-7) had two players in double-figures as Erica Grayson and Victoria Jones scored 14 points each.  Jones was the game's leading rebounder with 13, for a double-double, and Williams followed her with 10.

The Lady Bleu Devils wrap up the regular season on the road at LSU-Shreveport this Thursday, February 25, when they meet the second place Lady Pilots (19-5, 12-4) at The Dock.  Game time is 5:30 p.m.
