New Orleans, LA - (Women's Basketball) Lai'Ana Gill scored a season-high 13 points and Jazzmin Smith scored 11 to lead Dillard (10-15, 3-12) to a 63-55 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference win over Southern University at New Orleans (12-9, 6-9), Thursday night at Dent Gym.  It was the second consecutive league win for the women.

The women closed the first period with a 31-23 lead as Smith went 6 of 8 from the free throw line.  That was the tale of the tape for the Lady Bleu Devils, who shot 87.5 percent (14/16) from the charity stripe in the first half.  Gill and Smith had eight points each before the break.

In second half action, it was all DU and the women grabbed a 10-point lead (38-28) by 16:38 when Ariel Mitchell sank a three-pointer off a dime from Smith.  The Lady Bleu Devils grabbed their largest lead around the 12 minute mark, 47-35, and would do so twice more before settling for the eight-point win.

Mitchell ended the night with nine points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals.  Smith added a team-high eight rebounds with two assists.  Gill also contributed three caroms and three assists.  As a team, the women posted their second-highest three-point percentage of the season, shooting 46.2.

The Lady Knights had two players in double-figures, including Jessica Adams (15) and Tyesha Robinson (11).  Jazzlyn Prince was the game's leading rebounder with nine.

On Saturday, February 20, the Lady Bleu Devils will make the cross-town trek to Xavier University of Louisiana for the 2010 Allstate Sugar Bowl Crosstown Classic.  Tip off time is 5 p.m., at The Barn.  The first place Gold Nuggets, on a 15-game win streak, clinched their first GCAC regular season championship since the 2004-05 season against Loyola, earlier tonight.
