New Orleans, LA - (Women's Basketball) If the early bird gets the worm, then playing at noon appeared to agree with the Dillard Lady Bleu Devils as they cruised to their first conference win of the season, 94-73, over Spring Hill, this weekend at Dent Gym.  The women are now 8-5 overall and 1-3 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play.

Dillard's Ariel Mitchell scored 20 first half points to help her team to 55-38 halftime score.  Spring Hill enjoyed a brief lead that lasted less than two minutes, early in the period, but the Lady Bleu Devils basically dominated both ends of the floor.

"We really, really needed this win," said head coach Kiki Baker Barnes.  "We've been beating ourselves and lost some winnable games.  I think they've discovered how to and that they can win now."

The first GCAC win came with other firsts.  This season, it was Dillard's first time scoring more than 90 points; senior Guylene Nsiewe scored in double-figures and was a perfect 7 of 7 from the field, for 14 points; the Lady Bleu Devils shot .500 from three-point range, hitting 9 of 18, and it was their first time over .500 from the field, finishing at .521.  Additionally, Mitchell grabbed five rebounds to lead the team in that category for the first time this campaign.

Mitchell ended the game with 24 points, followed by Nsiewe, and Alrieon Bevins chipped in11 and a team-high eight assists.  Spring Hill was led by Jackie Higgenbotham with 18 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Bleu Devils host a non-conference matchup against NCAA Division III Louisiana College on Monday, January 18, at 5:30 p.m. at Dent Gym.
