Coming of a three-week long break since their loss to NAIA No. 20 Southern Polytechnic, Dillard sputtered in the first half allowing the Lady Blazers to go up by as many as 11 points.  Belhaven crashed the boards 21-15 and took a four-point lead into halftime, 31-27.  The Lady Blazers also had the advantage at the break with 48 percent field goal shooting, while Dillard only managed 35.5.

In the first two minutes of second half action, Mitchell came out firing hitting back to back field goals, including a three-pointer, giving the Dillard women a 34-31 lead, the first since their opening basket. The Lady Bleu Devils also turned their defense up a notch, staying close until a three-pointer by Jordin Mauk lifted BU by three points, 54-51 at 8:59.

Dillard clawed its way back to a 60-60 tie, but Jazzmin Smith botched the back end of a two-shot bonus with 1:14 left to go.  With just 41 seconds left, she redeemed herself with a bucket that put DU within one, 67-68.  Moments later, Belhaven's Jira Williams missed a field goal to seal the win and the Lady Blazers called a time out with 17 seconds remaining.  Dillard interrupted the next play with a timeout to set up a final play with 11 seconds left in regulation.  But, hopes of a GCAC victory were dashed when Lai'Ana Gill turned the ball over and Belhaven held it until the final seconds ticked off the clock.

Other high scorers for Dillard were Smith with 16 and a team-high eight rebounds and three blocks, and Syrena Edwards finished with 10 points.  As a team, the Lady Bleu Devils were outrebounded 42-31 and shot only 46.7 percent from the free throw line, while Belhaven shot 65 percent.

Belhaven had four players in double-figures, led by Jessica Barlow's double-double of 15 points and 12 boards.  Jordin Mauk had 14 points, followed by Brittany Carr with 12 and Jira Williams with 11.

The Lady Bleu Devils will next play on January 9, when they host GCAC opponent the University of Mobile.  Game time is 5 p.m. at Dent Gym.
