New Orleans, LA - Despite a season-high 18 points from Jazzmin Smith, the Dillard Lady Bleu Devils (7-2) fell to NAIA No. 20 Southern Polytechnic State University 73-56, Friday night at Dent Gym.

Early on, Dillard managed to stay close but, around the 8:00 mark, Southern Poly took a 10-point lead on a shot and bonus by Crystal Davis.  Towards the end of the period, the Lady Bleu Devils fought back with a short run to cut the lead to three going into halftime, 28-31.

In second half action, Southern Poly took control of the game and went up by a dozen (43-31) at 13:48, after a three-pointer by Dione Parks.  The DU "clamp down defense" wasn't holding and the Lady Hornets led by as many as 22 points near the end of the period.

Wrapping up scoring for Dillard was Lauren Daniel, who contributed eight points.  Jessica Small was the leading rebounder with five.

SPSU (13-0) had three players in double figures including Marisa Stotler (25, nine rebounds and five steals), Parks (17, six rebounds) and Davis (15 points, six rebounds).

The Dillard women will break for the holidays, but return to action on January 7, 2010, to start Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play against Belhaven College.  Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Dent Gym.
