Columbia (7-1) jumped out early, quickly amassing two 17-point leads midway through the first half, 10-27, and later around the 7:00 mark, 14-31.  The Lady Bleu Devils rallied back with a 10-point run to cut the deficit by six points, 32-38, going into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Cougars grabbed a 16-point lead (50-34) a little over six minutes into the period.  Dillard went on another 10-point run, again cutting the lead by six (44-50) on an "And-1" play by sophomore guard Lauren Daniel, around the 11:00 mark.  The Lady Cougars followed with a 12-point sprint, going up by 18 at 7:26, to push their lead to 62-44.

With just under four minutes to play, Dillard's Jessica Small drew a technical foul for taunting giving Columbia its biggest lead of the game (68-49) off two Whitney Widaman free throws.  Down the stretch, missed opportunities in the paint, at the stripe and on the perimeter kept the Lady Bleu Devils at a scoring distance.  Dillard went 1-14 from three-point range and ended the game on a missed layup.

Jazzmin Smith led DU with 11 points, followed by eight from Cheyney Hill.  Syrena Edwards had a team-high seven rebounds, as Dillard posted a total of 34 to Columbia's 57.  The Lady Cougars had five players in double figures including leading scorer Denise Rosario (15) and Kirsti Wilkerson (10), with three players posting double-doubles - Rachel Oswald (12 points, 11 rebounds), Veronica Smith (11 points, 14 rebounds) and Whitney Widaman (14 points, 10 rebounds).  Defensively, Widaman also had a game-high three blocks; Columbia had 12 as a team.  Dillard had a game-high nine steals.

Although the winning streak was stopped at six, Dillard's 6-1 record is still more than respectable and its second best start in the last five seasons.

The Lady Bleu Devils return to the court on Saturday, December 5, hosting Edward Waters College at 7 p.m., at Dent Gym.
